Senior Profiles

May 24, 2021

It’s been a tough year for students and especially for the seniors who have had to do without so many of the activities they had been looking forward to as part of their senior year.

But this week they will be kicking off their senior activities and we at the Veritas want to get the celebration of the Class of 2021 started now.

We are going to profile as many seniors as respond to our questionnaire that we sent to all seniors. We will let them tell you in their own words what the last four years have meant to them and how they view the years ahead.

We will publish Q and A profiles each day (about 5 or more at a time) until we have completed the class, so keep checking back to see your favorite seniors from the RHS Class of 2021!

Miku Yoshioka

What are your post high school plans?

I plan to major in biology at Suffolk University with a pre-med route for my first two years, in hopes to save enough money to apply to NYU my junior year, to finish my bachelors there.

What will you miss most about high school?

Being able to see the friends I grew up around everyday, going to college is meeting new people like a fresh start!

What advice would you give to underclassmen?

If there’s a club you want to try, go for it!! Literally 4 years of high school goes by so quick, that you want every chance to get, to try and do everything. Be confident in yourself as well, high school is scary at times, but just think of it as somewhere you’re preparing for the real world like college, where everyone is unpredictable and new just like you. Try not to stress too much, enjoy the little things too!! Go to homecoming, prom, football games, class trips, etc!

What special moments, events etc. will you remember? Include as many as you’d like.

In my junior year we held our first unified pep rally, and that was something I’m so happy to be a part of planning, seeing bulldog Buddies’ smiles and the entire school come together was incredible! I think every year Project Pumpkin is my favorite event to help out, and I’m proud to say Rockland has always gotten so much positive feedback. It is an event where community members can bring their children to safely trick or treat in a school as well as fundraising canned goods for the Rockland Food Pantry!

What was your favorite class?

My favorite has got to be Mr. Bigsby’s Sophomore English class. I find his teaching style really made me enjoy English more as well as improving my weaknesses like writing. Though there are times it’ll be a little too crazy, like cutting up quizzes, he made me want to stay and genuinely learn more about reading.

What was your favorite after school activity?

I have to say swimming has to be one of my favorites, from the bus rides home blasting 2000’s music and eating pizza even being defeated, the team bonding I had with some of them for 4 years, really encouraged me to try hard and stay on the team. I thank Coach Julie and everyone for encouraging me and pushing me to my limits!

What have you learned about yourself this year?

That I really miss school in person a lot.  I thought I would enjoy it a lot more, but I feel isolated from socializing with people, which really brought me pretty low emotionally, but I learned ways to interact with people, and I’m happy to say I’m playing tennis, which makes me feel a lot better.

I would tell the underclassmen to just enjoy high school, especially considering how my senior year went, it is super important to have a good time. Time really goes by fast and I know everyone always says this but it’s because it’s true.

What special moments, events etc. will you remember? Include as many as you’d like.

I will never forget my track team this year. They are the most optimistic group of people I’ve ever participated in sports with and we all bonded so well even though we just met.

What was your favorite class?

My favorite class at RHS was probably AP Language because I like writing and that was a class that challenged my abilities and that I did well in too.

What was your favorite after school activity? If you can’t choose one, list as many as you’d like.

Any sport that I was playing at the time whether it was soccer, basketballl or track.

What have you learned about yourself this year?

I learned how many people actually look up to me and how great of a leader I can be.

Stay tuned for our next set of profiles tomorrow.
