The RHS band and chorus performed their annual holiday concert on Wednesday, December 19 at 7 pm.
The chorus led by Mrs. Jennifer White, wowed their audience with two songs sung in Latin, along with “Lullaby” by Billy Joel, arranged by Mrs. White, “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” and “Come Travel with Me” with Christian Malo accompanying on the piano.
The jazz ensemble, conducted by Mr. Matt Harden, played holiday songs, “White Christmas” and “All I Want for Christmas is You,” arranged by Mr. Harden. The concert band performed “On the Mall,” “Loch Lomond” and “Sleigh Ride.” Mr. Harden explained that the band’s performance of the Scottish ballad, “Loch Lomond,” was dedicated to the people of Newtown, Connecticut in memory of the 27 adults and children lost at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14th.
After intermission the band and chorus combined and astounded the audience with selections from Part I of Handel’s Messiah, along with the “Hallelujah Chorus.”
Sophomore Catherine Crocker who attended the concert to watch her boyfriend, Markus Rohwetter, play the trumpet described the event, saying, “It was really impressive. I am always really surprised with the talent of the music department.”
