On Wednesday, December 2, 2015 the Rockland High School Student Government Council held its monthly meeting with a seasonal twist. The night consisted of writing holiday cards to soldiers, festive games, and a little bit of friendly competition.

Previous to the night’s “Big Meeting” the council’s Executive Board met for its monthly meeting in which council officers, class presidents, committee chairs, and other executives wrote out holiday cards to soldiers. The cards will be sent to members of the Red Cross who will then distribute the seasonal memos to soldiers in need of a bit of holiday cheer.

For the “Big Meeting” members were asked to dress up in their favorite holiday accessories. Whether they wore a Santa hat, reindeer antlers, or their favorite ugly sweater, the council members did not disappoint. The meeting was filled with splashes of red, green, and lots of holiday spirit.

At the meeting the members broke off into smaller class meetings and committee meetings. After, the council’s Big 5 (President Haley Macray, Vice President Caitlin Yannizzi, Secretary Noelle Atkins, Treasurer Ryan Sugrue, and Publicity Coordinator Adam Royle) kicked off the annual Holiday Committee Wars with a game called “All Wrapped Up,” where the members of each committee had to make one member into the best looking gift they could given limited resources such as wrapping paper, garland, and bows. Other Holiday Committee Wars activities included a Christmas carol finish the lyrics game and holiday trivia.

Also a part of this month’s meeting was SGC’s latest community service project: a drive for Vinfen. Community Service Chair Shannon Lindahl has organized the drive for the month of December. For a complete list of items being collected please click here.
