Chorus, Band Present Pops Concert
Rockland High School’s music students paid tribute to departing seniors and instructors in last night’s Pops Concert held in the auditorium.
The evening began with the Concert Band playing John Philip Sousa’s “Fairest of the Fair.” Next the band performed “Rollo Takes a Walk,” and “Song for Lyndsey.” The band ended their performance with the seniors’ choice, “The Great Locomotive Chase.”
The Chamber Choir was up next and showed their vocal range with “Duerme Negrito” and “Ain’t No Grave Can Hold My Body Down.”
After a short intermission the Jazz Ensemble performed “One O’Clock Jump,” “Blue Skies” with Ella Engles’s vocal accompaniment, and “Los Changos Volando.”
The final section of the Pops Concert was held down by the full Chorus which did six numbers including the seniors’ choice of “Daemon Irrepit Callidus.” They also performed “Shenandoah,” as well as “And So It Goes,” with Leah DeCecco as soloist. Ella Engle was the soloist for “Danny Boy” while Genesis Rojas (piano) and Sarah Hunter (violin) accompanied the chorus’ performance of “Say Something.”
Next, several RHS alumni joined the chorus and sang the traditional “Road Home” with Genesis Rojas as the soloist. Surprising their directors, Mr. Michael Coogan and Mrs. Jennifer Hartnett, the chorus sang “My Way” to them. It was an emotional finish to this end of the year performance.
